Each year the Bloco da Lama has more comrades. The last carnivals it has paraded with more two thousand members. They say its parade on Carnival Saturday casts evil spirits away and brings joy to the Paraty Carnival. Every year, this bloco bid farewell to Carnival taking a bath at the river and leaving a message of peace for the city.

It was created in a Saturday of Carnival at the beginning of the 90s, by some friends that were bathing themselves in the medicinal mud of the Praia do Jabaquara. They noticed that they could not recognize each other and decided to wear such as strange 'costume' that Carnival evening.

The next year, a larger crowd met and formed a bloco for that Carnival Saturday, this time presenting themselves as a prehistoric tribe: covered in mud, from head to toes,  clad in rugs, carrying skulls and bones, yelling ¡uga, uga, rá, rá!.

More than five thousand people attend Carnamar in Paraty each year.

As part of the promotion of fun in the period preceding the carnival, also takes place the parade and party boats in the bay, which has become a traditional festival in the city.

The maritime event has become a traditional festival in the city and the current city administration is very committed to its continuation.

It is unclear when, exactly, were the first street carnival in Paraty. It is certain, however, that in 1920 there were already clubs and carnival  bands like 'Lira Youth' and 'Twenty-five December' that celebrated the carnival with several toccatas, called at the time of "Zé Pereira".

At first these groups were composed only by masked men. It was from 1928 that women became part of them.

Having enjoyed the party and racing Carnamar, the festivities of Carnival come with its famous Bloco da Lama.

           The meeting aims to spread the watercolor as a means of artistic expression alone, whereas it should be appreciated the use of paper as a support for work of art, emphasizing its durability, expressive quality,  market value, accessibility within the concept of democratization of arts, promoting the knowledge of new materials, techniques and artistic trends.

           The meeting place will be in Paraty (RJ) during the 24th and 28th of August 2011, during which workshops will be organized, lectures, demonstrations, etc. in order to disseminate the watercolor and exchange among participants.

           There will be attended by invited national prominence and a guest of honor known international renown.

           In due time the schedule will be released about the event, which may be changed if needed by the organizing committee.

           It is for this committee to appoint judges who will participate in panels Exposure Meeting, and resolve any issues that are missing or that arise during the work.

With litanies, masses, processions, Festa de Nossa Senhora do Rosário e São Benedito, which promises to bring together a large number of people. The event, held in the Parish of Paraty, through the Apostleship of Prayer, with the support of the City and the Department of Tourism and Culture of Paraty.

On the day of the festival, whose slogan is: "Blessed, good and faithful servant, who works for the Kingdom of God" is celebrated Mass and coronation of the King and Queen of San Benito. In the afternoon, a festive procession takes place, which takes on a stretcher to the Virgen Del Rosario and San Benito, followed by the King, the Queen and her retinue of honor, the fun, the band and people. Shortly after the Mass of Thanksgiving.

The coronation has a peculiarity: parts used in the procession are all original of the Benedictine order and belong to the city museum. During the festivities, residents removed the parts of the museum and then return them.

August 18th to 21st are the final dates for Festival da Pinga 2011, also called Cachaça, Culture and Flavours Festival is the true paradise of pinga (sugar cane liquor) lovers and a partiers must: at the Praça da Matriz square there are lots of stands to for regional cachaça tastings.

And it is not only drinking, the programme includes live music: there are samba, forró, pagode and Paraty traditional music shows. And there are also many typical food stands to go along with the Paraty traditional Pingas.
